2010 35d P0299

Hey I am trying to resolve this problem. I have a P0299 code that sets immediately after I try to clear it. It will set with the key on, engine off which seems kinda odd. Also after clearing the code it will immediately set again without ever starting the vehicle. How do I get a low boost fault without ever starting the engine? I was not getting low end performance at all and I pressured up the intake system and found a hose leak going into the intercooler and repaired that. I have good vacuum (29”) coming from the pump, the reservoir holds vacuum, I have good vacuum at the high pressure wastegate, and the turbo turns beautiful. I have also checked what I believe to be the low pressure turbo wastegate and it holds vacuum as well but it doesn’t have vacuum when at idle. I’m not sure where to go from here. I wish I knew what should and shouldn’t have vacuum at idle. Also, I just got this thing and it looks like the turbos and all the egr stuff is practically new. I’m a dealer so I don’t have a way to contact the previous owner and ask. I wish my scan tool would give me the MAP sensor values.

Read it earlier. The "im a dealer" was odd. You keeping it or flipping it?

Dropping into an in-process mess is never fun, less so for us who tend to be 'pattern matchers' based on what we see over many owners experiences. In your case, it feels like someone has been chasing parts for a while, no?

It feels odd that you are getting a low boost code with the engine off, after resetting the OBD memory. Might consider a BMW specific reader.... could be missing something.

Maybe this will help:

Why is it 'odd' that I'm a dealer? I will probably be selling it but I sell to people that I want to come back and buy from me again so I want it to be right. I only mentioned I was a dealer to explain the fact that I don't know the history of the vehicle. It does look to me like someone has spent quite a lot on parts and maybe gave up the fight and traded it in. I always seem to end up with the oddball problems that arent simple to find.

99.9% of the time we read posts from owners or people that pretend to be owners.

The odd, honest 0.1% is a dealer that says 'im a dealer'. Its odd, in the purest definition of 'odd'. IMO

FWIW, lots of cars have no history. Most cars. Heck, problem cars are buttoned up- owner says "lots of maintenance just done"...and the next buyer doesnt do a PPI or other inspections. It is getting to be the rare car that comes with a binder of service records.

Anyway, Im gonna assume BF is more active...catch it over there.

Well, I guess since I’m honest I’m not ashamed to let people know I’m a dealer. I call it like I see it or like it is whether it’s good or bad. As far as the history, I would love to know what has been tried on this thing because it would help me eliminate some things. I think I’m gonna throw the EPDWs at it along with a MAP sensor and go from there. I can chance that a lot cheaper than I can take it somewhere an hour from me. Maybe it will work. I seem to be good on the vacuum system and the turbo seems to be in order (I am an aircraft mechanic so I have some pretty good turbo experience)

Thanks

I was going to ask if you could get live data off the MAP sensor.

No I can’t. My scanner is general and does some sensors but not MAP. I have a buddy that has one that will read it though. I can’t get past the fact that it sets the light as soon as I clear it without even starting the engine. That sounds like a crazy sensor reading.

What BMW specific diagnostic software do you guys like the best? I’ve been wanting to study which one I think I would like.

At least your a dealer that wants to fix the car before you sell it. These aholes by me wanted to sell me a car that they will fix later... I found egr codes with a crap obd scanner and refused to commit. I had to tell the owner that he was a scammer because of his high pressure sales tactics. Auto auction my ass if they didn't want to budge on the price. I should've put brake fluid on his shiny new m6 for the way he told security to escort me out just for calling him a scammer.

Just checked their Google maps info and yeah they're scammers. I think the problem with people in general, not just car buying is that they pretend to be nice instead of being honest. Anyone with common sense could tell that queens auto mall auction on Atlantic ave is run by a shiester. All of their good reviews are done by fake one review accounts lol

As a bare minimum a Foxwell NT520 Pro or something like that should be used. At least you'll get the specific BMW codes and the ability to read live data, clear adaptations, etc.

Rheingold, ISTA, etc are the best for sure.
