Need help with a crank no start issue
I did check the fuel pump and it is turning on and running. I also sprayed carb cleaner into the intake and the vehicle still would not even attempt to fire, leading me to believe this is likely not a fuel issue? I also used a snap on scanner to active command the fuel pump on and can clearly hear the fuel pump running. The only code that was present was a 2F44 (EWS Manipulation Prevention), this code was present after several start attempts (not sure if it was present prior or not) but was able to be cleared and did not return after multiple more start attempts. Since the vehicle would not fire after providing an alternate fuel source (carb cleaner) through the intake, and all other signs showing the fuel pump seems to be good, I feel that this is likely due to no spark. The tach does show RPMs when cranking and I also verified this using a Bluetooth OBD reader with the Torque app (showing 120-150 RPMs during cranking). This seems to show that the Crank Position Sensor is reading correctly and since this vehicle has a coil for each cylinder I don't believe that all 8 coils would go bad at the same time. I am going to disconnect the MAF this evening and attempt to start with the MAF disconnected but I do not have much confidence in this resolving the issue but will report back regardless. Does anyone have any ideas? |

I do believe the vehicle does need a battery in the future, it had a few slow cranks during the recent brutal winter but now that it has warmed up I have not had an issue with starting until today so I dont think the battery is causing the issue? I did also connect a charger when I was trying to diagnose the issue and this did not seem to make a difference with the no start issue other than the starter audibly spinning the engine faster. |

I am pretty sure that fixing the battery will not repair an AWS that has lost sync. FWIW. Not sure thats your issue, but once it loses sync in needs to be reset. However my last tangle with it was 5+ years ago, and the BMW systems have evolved over time

Another thing, I still have not noticed hearing my fuel pump run when I unlock the car or trying to start the vehicle. It is difficult for me to hear from the drivers seat when it is cranking so I am not 100% whether it is or not. However, when I active commanded the pump on, it was running. Does the immobilizing disable fuel and spark? I though I had read on some other forums that it disables cranking so if the vehicle was cranking it didnt have anything to do with the immobilizing feature but I have not been able to verify any information as to what is actually disabled. |

Hello evry one.. This is my first post to this forum. I have a 2008 bmw x5 4.8i sport, and just got back from geting it towed to my apartment complex, it was driving normal no probles, whent with family to the mall then to eat and the suv starded right up no problems .. When heading home we had one last stop at a supermarket and then she would not start , she was cranking rpm went up , but it did not start now i killed the battery from craning it up. Checked the fuel pump relay and that was fine... Now going to get a scaner and see what code it throws at me ill keep you posted if any update.

You should start your own thread, would help keep things organized. Did you eat before or after the mall? Was the supermarket after that? How many people in 'the family'??? Just kidding.... It's funny but in an effort to provide details we kinda focus on stuff that doesnt matter... Miles? Any history of prior issues or repairs? Let us know the codes. |

Hello every one.. Well got me a everlast batery charger one of those smart ones at walmar for like 55 buks, charged the batery at 2 volsts solw charge all night till the indicator showed 100%charged, i put it back in the suv last night and closed the car, then guess what next morning got in and gave it a go and she turnd on... So i guess my batery is starting to die.. Its the original bmw battery guess its bean in the car for 11 years abut.. I did reed some place that if the battery is low it will carnk the engine but it wont be enough juce to prime the fuel pump or the coils.. Somthing like that so thats wat looks like what made her turn on again , will keep you posted if any other issue pups up.

Funny that the e70 has this fancy ibs system to monitor the battery and it fails because it didn't say crap this time.. What junk programming/electronics.
