DEF Fill volume, just checking to be sure is 4.5 and 1.6 G

Just got back from a month in Beijing, joined a startup there and will spend lots of time away from home in 2018.

While I was there the 999 miles message came up and the wife got 2 jugs from VAG, 2.5 Gallons each. I usually just put 2.5 Gallons and then let it run down to the warning but understandably wife does not want it to come on too soon.

As to filling it up today, wondered about max fill volume. I found this claim on a forum: 1.6 gallons for the active tank and 4.5 gallons for the passive tank. This roughly coincides with my memory of reading up when I had problems with the active tank. Is this correct?

I bought the MB fill tube some time back and it works well but I'd hate to get stuck with the fill tube on and still have liquid on in it while the tank is already full.

BTW, Searching for a newer 35d (14 and up) but seems the ones I like with the M package are mostly white and I prefer black or space gray.

I'm not sure what MB fill tube you are referring to, but I had used a small BMW bottle and created a funnel as recommended on here and when the tank is full you simply unscrew the funnel and it is spill proof. If you're going to be doing this more frequently - maybe something to consider.

Mercedes sell a tube that fits their large size DEF bottle and the X5 fill stud. I transfer the content of a VAG DEF container in to the MB one and then attach it to the X5. I will make a picture of the items soon and post them.
Last time I filled, I put 6 gallons in the primary tank and next time it screams I will do the remainder of the last container plus one full one.

DEF fill hose

I forgot to post a picture of my MB DEF hose and can't find it on my computer either, but discovered Amazon now sells a version too. See attached image.

Probably better then mine as it seems it would fit non-MB DEF container. I keep having to fill my MB container with the ones I buy at VAG. This looks like it might fit the regular generic fitting.
