No heat in cabin, fan speed only 2 bars in Auto mode

I had to replace a cracked coolant recovery tank on my 2009 BMW X5. Since the replacement, there is no heat in the cabin and regardless of the setting in Auto Mode, there are only 2 bars on the fan speed in Soft, Medium and Intensive settings. The heater and auto mode were functioning fine prior to replacement of the coolant recovery tank. I have back flushed the heater core, check the heater control valve (hot fluid enters and exits the valve) and purged the system of air. Still no heat and the auto mode still not functioning.

If it weren't for the issue with the auto mode, I would suspect replacement of the heater core may be necessary. There are no symptoms of a leaking heater core with the exception of the occasional smell of anti-freezed from the vents prior to replacement of the coolant recovery tank.

Any help would be great as it is cold in Colorado now.

Thanks!

Does the fan motor itself run??? (You just talk about 2 bars on the display- no discussion of the actual motion of air..)

There may be some stuff you can look at with a proper BMW codereader tool.... IHKA is the heater control as I recall, maybe a reset?!?

The fan functions properly on the manual settings from lowest to highest. Even when using the manual settings, there's no heat. The code reader didn't give any fault codes related to heating/AC, so I'm really stumped on this one.

what code reader? Just an OBD reader?

You want something that can interrogate the climate system and reset it

some interesting reading on similar systems...https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...e-problem.html

Thanks for the lead. I reset the climate system and all is working as it should. Cabin temperature heated to 82 degrees, auto fan working as it should be for Soft, Medium and Intensive settings!

Was the reset you performed the diagnostic mentioned in the linked thread above?

I reset it using a Foxwell NT510 scanner. I attempted the procedure in the link, but failed. Luckily the Foxwell has reset functionality.
