Valley pan pipe or water pump?

Hey everyone,

I have an 07 X5 4.8 and it's leaking coolant from the front center from the body of the water pump.

I tried searching through the threads and youtube and they're all talking about drips from the weep hole from the block wall rather than from the water pump body.

Is this still the valley pan or is it just the water pump? The amount of coolant coming out is fairly large. Picture with the arrow.

Thanks!

If the leak is coming from that weep hole, yes the water pump is going. If it were me, I'd replace it. But in all honesty (though it is pricey) I would also replace the internal crossover pipe too. I did that on my previous E70 with the 4.8 and it was well worth the investment.

Thanks I really hope it's just the pump! Just ordered the pump today and hope to get it installed myself over the weekend.

Was looking at the crossover pipe kits and the bimmerfix one seems the easiest to install. Agree on doing this in one shot since the pump will be off anyway but I'm planning to sell the X5 in few months.

The bimmerfix is a bandaid. Not a fix. May just be the pump. You don’t have to do these repairs at the same time but it makes it a little easier. I have done all of this work so if you have any questions let me know and I’ll try to help.

Reporting back. Water pump changed. had to get couple of o-rings for the hoses.
so far no leaks and no drop in coolant level after 4 days of driving.
