USB Hub Location? Other questions as well

Hello to all, I have a 2008 X5 that had the USB and aux, both aren't working, the lighter is working, so I don't believe it is the fuse. I changed the module to a brand new one and still not working. So my guess is the USB hub, can someone please tell me where this is located? I've tried doing much research and am unable to find a clear answer, I found one site that says it's int he trunk which I can't find and another site that says it's under the driver's seat which it where the sub is.

Next question, I just ordered the Avin head unit, does anyone know if I need the aux to work to be able to hear sound from this head unit? Or will it work without the aux?

Thank you for your help guys...

The USB is controlled by the MULF.

So even if my Bluetooth works, the mulf2 may still be the issue when it comes to the USB and aux not working?

If you have the SOS button/BMW assist, bluetooth is controlled by the TCU. USB hubs don't go bad often. They are only used to split the signal for the unused phone cradle in the arm rest. Finding and testing the USB hub is not easy. It would be simpler to just run a new cable between the MULF and console.

Did you replace the MULF? If so did you have it coded? It may need to be reset to the options your X5 has. As for the Avin, there are a few threads on those. All of this may be unnecessary if the Avin replaces it.

I haven't replaced it yet, I'm only concerned that I may not get sound from the Avin when it comes in as I read that it may be needed to connect it to the aux in order to get sound. However I will check and research further on it. If I don't need to replace it then better for me. Let's see what happens, thanks so much for your help, I will update you on my findings.

MULF is not required for Aux in to work. BMW without USB have aux in wiring hooked directly to the back of the head unit. Perhaps that is how the Avin works.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but i'm struggling to find my USB hub in a RHD 2012 E70 Diesel. I've completely removed the centre console, not there, and dug under the carpets on the left hand side, and not there either. Anyone suggest another location where they stick these little suckers?

Trace the USB wire and see what you find. You may not even have one. In the US, cars use the hub for the phone cradle in the armrest. Do you have that? And some non North American BMW have USB hooked directly to the back of the head unit.

Why are you seeking the hub? If you're USB isn't working there is a high chance that it may not be the hub, my issue what the MULF unit in the trunk. I bought a used one for $40 on eBay and it worked for me. My hub was hidden right on the left side of the shifter. You would have to remove the shifter completely to get to it. But as the guy above just said, and I think he's right, the hub was only for the cradle.

Thanks, I have the cradle, and USB has stopped working in both the arm rest and the glove box. No other symptoms so i have bought a new hub, just can't find the old one :-( My car was from the last 3 months of e70 production and thinking they might have done something odd towards the end.

I am thinking that the glove box (1), arm rest (2) and the cradle (3) are the USB ports, hence the hub. But i could be wrong...
