E70 50i Front suspension or transmission problems?
Hi all, back ground on the car is a 2011 BMW X5 50i at 80k miles W/ the 21" wheels. I'm currently struggling in locating a cause of some symptoms I have. At the moment, while driving, the vehicle is making this vibration throughout the whole car. Also, there is this rotational thumping felt during low speeds, accelerating or decelerating.
Recently, to fix some other problems, the struts, strut mounts, strut bushings upper and lower, the lower control arm arms, the "tension struts", have all been replaced. This resolved the awful thumping and clunking noise over bumps, but not the rotation thumping felt at lower speeds. At higher speeds, the vehicle kind of shakes/shimmys but it isn't violent, and almost feels as if a wheel is unbalanced.
Now, I am not getting standard symptoms of a bad cv axle or wheel bearing. There is no metal noise, no loud clicking while turning, no humming etc. Only the slight vehicle shake and the rotational thumping. I had failed CV axles on an E53, and the symptoms are obvious, but don't seem to apply here.
Example: If I'm coming from 45 mph to a slow stop, all through the point of decelerations, I can feel a pronounced "thump" that is rotational, that progressively gets worse the slower the vehicle gets. Then from 3rd gear to 1st gear is clunky in the downshifting until the point of stopping, like 1 second before it completely stops, it kind of feeds like I rolled into a pot hole.
If I accelerate, the thumping is very minimal, but if I let off the pedal and coast, I can feel the thumping/jerk. It is by no means violent, but everyone notices it + this is a recent problem.
If anyone has any insight on what I should look into next, and or what test I should conduct to rule things out so I can better narrow my problem, please give any input as this is becoming a PITA to resolve. The car aside from the current issues, is in phenomenal shape, and I'd hate to just sell it over these issues.
