2012 X5M engine sound

https://youtu.be/6sI_AuafX8A

Looking at this fine vehicle and thinking about a purchase. It has 65,000 miles. 2 owners, Resides in British Colombia all its life.

The engine idling sound is very prominent in this video. Does the noise sound normal to you guys?

Update: I checked with the local dealership that did the warranty work on it, apparently in October it has both its front airbags replaced, drive shaft done, and electronic auxiliary coolant pump replaced as well under the open recalls.

Don't have much else to go on since i'm not a owner yet and dealership won't provide service history to non-owners of the vehicle.

Sounds normal to me as these S63 motors have very very noisy injectors and that's the rhythmic sewing machine sound you hear. Make sure the injectors have been replaced under warranty as they are on a recall and you want the index 12 injectors.

My X5M was at the dealership last week for a failed FRM module. Work was covered by BMW NA. I mentioned the SIB 13-08-15 to them but they say they will not replace the injectors unless the car is throwing an injector error or that the injector is actually failing.

Does anyone have an injector failure code?

Car is running fine but the injector noise is audible. It is prominent and louder in city street driving. Not sure if the sound is qualified as loud or abnormal. I suppose if it's not bothering me too much it probably isn't serious.

I do get a hum that comes and goes, but is always there. Wondering if it's an alternator pulley or some other pulley or drive bearing noise.

Will get a recording of it next time.

Hmm, from the SIB

Quote:
Please perform the procedure outlined in this Service Information on all affected vehicles before customer delivery. In the event the customer has already taken delivery of the vehicle, please perform the procedure the next time the vehicle is in the shop.

It does NOT say "if there is a CEL for injector, do this procedure". This appears to be mandatory for any car that didnt have it done. Just based on the VIN being 'affected'

Now, it may be an old SIB or has been superceded.... dunno. You should confirm it is applicable to your car, that it hasnt been done...and if you did buy it from Canada that they will do it.

Also, it is super easy for an SA to dissuade you verbally. No record, no nothing.
