E70 3rd row seat fuel pump location

Hi everyone,
I purchased fuel pump and try to replace myself. However, my X5 has third row seat, is the fuel pump located under third row seat?

Does anyone know?

Thank you all!

how do you diagnose a bad fuel pump and not know where it is?

Or was this just a guess?

My car symptom this way:

When starting the engine, the rpm needle move up and down and the engine is shaking for about 30 second and turning back to normal. Sometimes it's sputtering too, especially when the engine is hot. However, if i start the engine and place my foot on gas pedal right away, the issue is not happening, rpm needle up or down depending on my hard my foot apply to the gas pedal.

I diagnostic and found down vacuum leak, replaced vacuum gasket, replaced VDO MAF sensor, replaced air filter, replaced oil/filter, replaced VDO throttle body (Idle valve control), and also replaced the entire 6 fuel injectors (so pricey), last, I replaced 6 NGK spark plugs and 6 Bosch coils.

When i replaced throttle body, I also relearned it.

My car is 145K mile and in the past i had the similar issue with my E320 and finally the fuel pump was failed while driving on highway.

I know exactly where is the fuel pump for E70 with 5 seaters, it is below the back seat but my E70 is built with 7 seaters and I don't think it is second row seat since i once removed these heavy seaters and nothing in the bottom of them.

I could not find any post related to specific replacement (only 5 seaters) in this forum, and I think there are many experts in this xoutpost (former of x 5 w o r l d . com forum) but there is not much about the fuel pump for 3rd row seats.

And here is i found from the others forum:
https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/f...emoval.898891/

Thanks ard!

So you've got a fuel pump problem that GOES AWAY when you open the throttle and increase the demand for fuel? Call me skeptical. If the hot sputtering is AFTER a hot start, I would rule out leaking fuel injector(s) before replacing pump.

Good links, seems to lay it out.

Id always thought the fuel tank and pump was in the same place no matter the number of rows. Just different procedure to get to it?

I really don't know exactly where is the fuel pump located for these 3rd row seat SAVs. They don't have much information via online searching and service manual download. I found one here but only for 2 row seats https://drive.google.com/file/d/1v11...ooBrWFBdu/view
Since the 3rd row seat X5 second row seat can be reclined and moving back/forth, according to the link from other forum, it said under 3rd row. I will try to remove the 3rd (which i never done before) to find out if the fuel pump under that passenger seat.

pshovest,
I think you didn't read my previous post that i already replaced 6 new fuel injectors and it cost $105 each x 6 injectors. I try to narrow my search for this symptom by replacing most of items as i listed above. It is ok to spend couple thousand $ for just part and DIY for the car with 145K miles.
Upon returning to your quote, when i start the car in the morning, this issue won't happens or when starting engine with AC is on. It only happens when the engine is hot for example, if I drive for 5-10 miles. then stop the engine and re-starting it, the rpm needle start to move up and down and the engine shaking combination for 10-30 seconds and back to normal. However, if I start the engine while my foot pressing on gas pedal acceleration, then the rpm needle moving upward and the engine is not shaking. I have read somewhere (forget the source) that they post the same issue and finally is the fuel pump malfunction, supplying low pressure fuel.

And the only item that i haven't replaced: in-tank fuel pump which i confuse the location of my E70 with 3rd row seat.

I have been drive the E53, now E70 and just bought a F15, this E70 issue is so strange
My nick is new, i lost the other username with email address but i am in this forum for many years since 2008 for my E53 2005 (sold) with x5world. I don't interact much just reading and learning from all of you.

Thank you!

Which engine do you have?

Are you saying the hunting idle and sputtering doesn't happen on a cold start?

The DME "knows" the AC is on or off when you start. My guess is it uses a different throttle profile when starting with AC on, to prevent stalling due to the additional load perhaps, and this profile keeps throttle more open than it does with AC off. If this occurs, it's similar to you holding throttle open with pedal.

The symptoms still do not point to a fuel pump problem.
