INPA works on e53, but not on e60 or e70 - any idea why not?

So I tried to code a used TCM (EGS) today in a 2008 535ix. INPA did not see the car (battery light and ignition light off).

I hooked up to my e53, INPA worked as expected (battery light and ignition light on).

Hooked up to my e70, INPA did not see car.

Do I need a different cable? Do I need to change settings? I am coming from the e53/e39 world, not sure how to get this working for newer chassis...

Thanks!

Yes. From what I've gathered, different cable is needed for e39/e53 vs e60/e70. Something to do with bridging pins. I forget the details though.

Yep - after much reading, seems like my cable is no good for newer cars - just ordered one from bimmergeeks.

it should still work if you connect pins 7 and 8 together via a switch.

Get yourself a copy of ISTA+

It's far more advanced than INPA and it's more suited to the newer BMW's - E70, E60, etc. Really great for diagnostics.

Bridging the pins on the K+DCAN cable is only for older BMW's - E53, E39, E46, etc. If your cable is working with your E53, then your pins may already be soldered or bridged somehow. This means it won't work on your E60/70.

You've ordered a cable from a reputable site so it should be fine, but for anyone else ordering a K+DCAN cable for their E70 from Ebay or AliExpress, make sure it has the green PCB (printed circuit board). The white PCB's will often work with an E53, but not an E70.
