LED Tail Lamp is out..

So notice the other day that the Inner driver side tail lamp (the one on the hatch) is out. Didn't think LEDs would have such a short life, but did some poking around online and there seems to be a lot of mention about the voltage regulator board overheating and solder joints failing, though the conversations mostly seem to be around X3's.

This also common on the LCI X5's? Any fixes other than replacing the whole assembly at nearly $300?

Yes, that was the article I had read, but it never mentions the X5, it is specific to the X3, and I wasn't sure if this 'fix' works successfully for the X5 tail lamp?

I guess the only way to find out is to take a peek and report back. There are direct replacement boards available on amazon (if the still have them) so the whole jury rigged repair can be skipped.

I appreciate the link, but suspect these cheap Chinese boards with old school copper coil resistors will have there own issues. Last thing I need is to install something like this and end up burning down the truck, and then the insurance company refusing to pay because of the source..

I do appreciate the feedback though, maybe I'll just have to take the sucker punch to the gut and buy an OEM replacement..

Depo tail lights are usually on Amazon. I had to replace an OEM before and that matched perfectly.

Mine failed from water intrusion. The gasket failed. Bulb carrier was rusted beyond repair. The LED board was good, but the connector was destroyed.

I have seen a lot of E70's with a wet right-inner tail light.

I found a new complete replacement assembly for ~$140. Shop around online.

Replaced the right inner light assembly and new gasket for left inner. It is an easy job, they snap in and out. Just depress the tab to release, you are not supposed to unscrew the nut as some directions on YouTube would have you believe.
