2013 E70 M57Y loud clapping noise at idle w/ oil cap open

Original owner of 2013 E70 M57Y, 80K miles.

About a year ago I noticed unusual light tapping noise coming from the (front side of) engine (at idle). I drove approximately 6,000 miles since then. The noise likely existed for much longer.

At first, I confused it with normal injectors sound, but over the time start getting concerned.

I find it hard to believe that this type of noise is normal.
(I also own 2016 F25 with N47D20O1 US which is silent with oil cap open)

Current Error Codes: None.
During recent oil change, I verified that old oil filter is free from any form of metal shavings (or, to be more precise - any kind foreign objects)

At 36K injector was replaced due to 4B26 DDE: Zero-quantity adaptation, injector, cylinder 6.
The very same code came back at 48K, then at 75K. Both times codes were cleared by BMWSF stealership with report of "nothing to worry about"

The million dollar question - what is it?

Its a normal sound on the N63 V8 - its the high pressure fuel pump clunking as it’s driven by the camshaft.

thanks for your feedback.

I bought stethoscope - noise seems to be originated around injector #1.

I spoke with couple mechanics, they also pointed it to injector.

Both advised against repairs until codes show up in ECU.

Hey, the cause of that noise is the vacuum pump.
Not sure if you ever figured it out, or have dealt with it. But I know for sure it's the vacuum pump. The video you put up saves me from having to put my own video up

I'm busy scouring the internet trying to find a way to fix the noise. I recently replaced the timing chain and sprockets on my X35d M57 engine, and when I started it back up for the first time, almost had a heart attack when I heard that noise. -Thought I'd gotten the timing wrong! But no, after trying a few things, I removed the vacuum pump, and the engine stopped making that noise.
It wasn't making the noise before I did the timing chain. So I'm assuming it's something done. I've tried reseating it a bunch of times. New Oring. Just not sure.

Hoping someone knows.

I never figured it out.
Perhaps it IS a vacuum pump,

I clocked another 30K miles with this clapping noise, at 97,776 as of yesterday.
I am waiting for harmonic balancer to give up: then will do HB, belts, tensiner, vacuum lines and pump in one shot

I also got myself 335d with 131K miles last year.
Interesting fact - the very same M57Y engine is super quiet in E90 and sounds like a tractor in E70
