Cleaning the DPF and other sooted related parts

Hi folks,

I have several of these great 2013 X5 diesels (USA market) and just love them. I want to be proactive and get all the miles out of them that I can. So one is at 140k and is constantly throwing a DPF regen code. I'm thinking of taking the DPF off and sending it off to a diesel repair center to have them professionally clean it. So my questions are:

- How hard is it to take the DPF off and

- Are there any other parts that are prone to getting gunked up that I should also take off and have cleaned at the same time, such as the intake manifold, EGR components or ?

Any and all suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks!

What is the DPF regeneration code? Mine has 169k+ miles and only recently the 0452 DPF replacement advisory code has appeared. If you're getting a "regen code" then there is a problem that needs to be fixed or you'll end up fouling the replacement DPF or the same code(s) will appear because the same problem is preventing a regeneration. I'd repair the cause for the code(s) first.

See here for an idea on DPF removal. Cliffs notes: it sucks. My trans replacement thread. Also had my DPF cleaned by a diesel shop and posted results of that in the thread.

As Josiah points out, diag your regen code. With a code present, your truck will not regen, and will foul your DPF. If you clean it without the truck doing regens it will refoul again. What code is it throwing?
