Help Needed: active suspension fault 006273-2011 X5 E70

Hello all,
Hoping to get a little help here--I've searched this and other BMW forums, no conclusive answers yet. Some of the responses on other threads/forums deal with air suspension, but pretty sure my 2011 does not have air suspension.

Today while returning home to Austin from Houston, I stopped 90 miles in for a bathroom break, and as I hit the brakes firmly and placed in P to shut off, the Dynamic Drive error popped upon my dash screen, first time ever.

:-(

Car is a 2011 X5 35i with 92,000 miles.

I thought it odd that the firm stop and into P triggered this warning.

Multiple power cycles will not re-set the dash warning--it persists.

Got home to my garage and came to a stop again and placed the car into P--this again triggered a fresh Dynamic Drive Malfunction warning, even though it was already showing on the top line of the iDrive display as an active fault.

So, it seems stopping and possibly putting into Park is triggering this.

I did a cursory search and found a few hints, re: battery condition and power steering fluid--both are OK. Battery is a recent install and power steering reservoir is full.

I connected Carly and pulled a single code:

006273. The Carly code readout also provided the following info:

"Predrive Check: FS Okay, VA and RA valve is energized open."

That's it.

By the way, clearing the code in Carly did nothing--the warning remains visible in the iDrive display.

Can ANYBODY provide a clue to where I can begin to trouble shoot this issue?

Funny story--as I headed home today, I stopped in Houston at a BMW dealer to explore trading this 2011 X5 for a newer 2020 X5! I should have traded it then and there!!! ARRGGHH!!

Any help appreciated and thank you,
Greg

CHeck this out. https://ia801005.us.archive.org/11/i...ic%20Drive.pdf

Around page 20, some conversations about VA/RA values....im guessing FS=Fail Safe?

you probably need something other than Carly. Lke ISTA, etc.

But even with that, it feels like you can replace a ton of parts on this code. Not a lot of resolutions in any forums. Valve block and sensors?

How DOES the system evaluate the VA and RA items? If it is a signal from a pressure sensor, THAT sensor may be bad? Problem with ISTA and other diagnostic flowcharts, they are based on what engineers thought 10-15 years ago- and NOT how these aging systems fail....

Thank you--that document is helpful. Still hoping somebody can interpret my error code with some precise feedback.

I'm going to explore ISPA--

I know, it is always preferable to find someone with THAT code, THAT model, and THE perfect silver bullet solution...

But when I search around and find lots of posts with that issue, and no solutions, it is time to 'open the aperture'...

Anyway, hope it gives you so hints, insights...

Not sure what you mean by "time to open the aperture."

I've ordered the correct DCAN cable for my car and will download and use ISTA software to further diagnose this problem.

I don't think I have a leaking anti-roll bar, as there's no evidence of fluid leak visible, and the reservoir is at full level. So it seems it's either the control module or valve block has gone bad.

As I (tried to) describe:

initially you 'focus in' on your car, your model, the same issue...in your efforts to do research.

When they fails you 'open the aperture' and look at different models- perhaps the same AD components- in an effort to get hints and indications. Thats all.

Agree it doesnt sound like leaks.

It sounds like the system is checking the VA and RA valves and finding them not as expected. Im not sure that means 'hard componenbt failure' versus something electrical (or sensor)

Needing some ISTA advice--

Hello all,
So, I acquired a copy of ISTA+ and ISTA D (I think those are the proper names)
and a high-quality K DCAN cable. Everything is installed on my Windows 10 laptop and cable is attached at both ends; OBD II and USB.

I cannot get ISTA to read my car. When I get to Administration/Vehicle Interface, I cannot change the selection (currently set to OMITEC interface (USB/serial). I watched a video where it was recommended that, when using a K-DCAN cable, one should select "Ediabus default settings (ediabus.ini)

Is that a fact? Sound correct?

These options are grayed out, and I'm unable to select another vehicle interface.

I've searched a bit across the web and found a few ISTA resources but still unable to resolve this issue.

I remember when I set up/installed the software, it asked if I wanted to install the OMITEC USB software and I checked "yes". Could this be the cause? Seems I should still be able to select another connection method.

I believe once I sort this connection issue, I should then be able to troubleshoot my Dynamic Drive malfunction issue.

Many thanks,
Greg
