Can manually unlocking the door reset things?

Got in the car a couple of days ago, went to move the seat to my memory setting, and nothing happened when I pushed the button, even though the seat wasn't in my position. I thought maybe my wife had overwritten my settings with hers, but when I moved the seat manually and pushed the recall button again, it didn't move back as expected. Tried the other memory recall button and same thing: both seat memory positions seem to have been cleared.

Then, today, I turned on the radio for the first time since before the seat memories were erased, and noticed that it was both on a different station and sounded thin... looked at the EQ settings and everything was reset back to 0, so the sound settings were erased, too.

Trip computer still shows fuel efficiency, distance travelled, and so on from before, so that one wasn't reset.

We haven't had any battery issues (just replaced it a couple of months ago) and nothing else odd happening, except that my wife's key fob battery was dead, so she unlocked/opened the door manually the day before. Could that be it? I can't think of anything else that may be causing it, but I'd rather not lose all the settings again, so if I can figure out how to avoid it that would be great.

2012 X5 E70 3.0 inline six N55.

Any ideas?

I don’t think it has someting to do do with opening the car with the key. My guess is that somehow there was a power drop.

Did you register your new battery on the car?

Check the big connector + on the battery, for corrosion on all bolts present, there are a few on the block.

Check, the ground kabel.

I did register the battery, though the power level was the same so I didn't need to register a change. And I'm confident there is no corrosion or other issues like that with just having been in there so recently. Maybe I'll go back and make sure that the attachments to the battery posts are firm.

All good points to consider

See what happens...
Once the door is open (and your not sitting but yet standing punch/press ) one of the settings buttons.

Also were you using your assigned key or did you use your wife's faulty key?

I used to occasionally have my key settings take over and move my seat away from my saved 1 position.

It works repeat and move my seat every time I used the key fob to unlock.

The one way to get it to behave was too get in the car, press my saved button then open the window and reach out and lock and unlock the door with the key.

I don't know what magical goof made things get out of whack but it would happen about four times a year.
