AWR-fix: Rear Wiper Skipping, Streaking
Seems to be a constant struggle to get a rear wiper to actually clear the whole length of the blade. Was same with e53.
On the e53 I found I could add a spacer under the spring and increase the downforce and that usually fixed the problem. With the e70 however that trick didn't work because the spring just shot the spacer out like a watermelon seed. Today I solved that by cutting two "v notches" into the underside edges of the wiper arm and i used a small plastic tube (about 5 mm diameter and 30 mm long) and put it between the spring and the wiper arm. That helped but with no articulating backbone for the wiper blade there was still one spot that wasn't getting cleared. A couple steps of bending the inner spring backbone just right and now my rear wiper cleans edge to edge. I'll try to remember to take a picture of exactly where to put the notch. You do need to pull the spacer out to lift the wiper arm to change the blade a little easier. There's a good chance you can just add additional bend to the spring to achieve the same effect. I tried that with e53 and it never worked as good as the spacer so i went straight to spacer with the e70. The point of the spacer is to lower the base of the spring closer to the window and the geometry will pull down harder vs. pulling inward toward the motor shaft. Just about winter here wanted my wiper working properly.
