I drove an E70 PP non-Sport this past weekend. I could not get excited over it, mostly because it's much bigger than what I need, but also because the design still looks awkward to me. The creaseline that runs from the tail light is interrupted at the front fender above the side maker and the front fender flare looks more like a bulge. The curved corners of the head lamps don't blend into any character lines. There's a lack of continuity or something - I can't quite describe it. It just looks awkward.
I did however drive a 335i SP/PP/Nav sedan with paddle shift steptronic. I was very impressed with the 335i for its combination of power and price ($46K) and the paddles responded quite well. Far more user friendly than the SMG tranny in the M3. EPA is 20/29 which is also very nice. I might have to buy one of these. But I'll likely wait for the X3 335i 6-spd manual variant which would encompass more of the things I want from a daily driver.
As for the E70, too big, too clunky. Not enough to cajole me out of my E53.
