Drove the 2007 3.0si

Lovely drive. Very solid and roomier. The appearance will take time getting used to. Someone stop me before I order one!

iDrive was ok, the new shifter is cool. I thought the new engine is a bit quieter than the original 3.0i. The basic sound system sounds much much better than the premium sound system I got. I know exactly what I want and it is close to 61K,

One quick question, which Sat radio is required for RT Traffic info? Does Sirrius work or would RTT work with XM only?

I stopped by the dealer to see the new E70. They only had 1 it was the 3.0. I remember what the X5 was like when I drove the 06 E53 a while ago, I didn't buy cause I wanted to see what the E70 was gonna look like.

The first thing I noticed was how much bigger the outside appeared to me, it was almost too truck like for me. Sitting in the drivers seat I noticed how the console in front of the shifter really slanted downward, it was sorta weird cause none of the internet pics really showed this. The interior was still 1st rate. They also had an 06 E53 in the showroom 3.0 and when I got into that it didn't feel as big to me, it felt more intimate and non truck like.

So after seeing it in person it was a much different experience for me, on the internet and all the pics I thought it looked great but in person I got a totally different feeling. It was too truck like in person, I think the E53 is more of a compact SAV feeling. I guess if you need something big then the E70 will work but it's not for me.

So I will probably either looks for a used 06 E53 until I find one with exact options I want which may take forever or I may opt for the sporty 2007 335 coupe which was also at the dealer with red interior and I feel in love. But I'm still undecided what to do.

Wait for X6.

First original-body heavy camouflaged prototypes are out there already. In the next months the heavy camo will start to peel off, and the real shape & design details will be revealed.

If you are looking for sporty performance vehicle with higher driving position, and coupe appearance then X6 will be perfect car for you.

That also why X5 has gone bigger - like you said "more truck like" (but still being the sportiest out there): to make space for more compact, more dynamic, more special & performance oriented X6. More utility oriented customers who need more space will opt for X5, while the ones seeking for true performance & sport will go for X6.

Like we love to say: "Mommy can have an X5 to herself (to drive children, pets, granny & grocery around), 'cause daddy is buying himself a new toy: an X6 - an all-purpose coupe. Vroooom!"

Mickey, can you tell me more about how it compared to your E53 in terms of ride, handling, and acceleration? I'm wondering if the new engine makes it noticeably faster, or if it's a wash with the extra weight. I currently have an X5 3.0 non-sport as well, and would be looking at the same in an E70. Also, how's the throttle tip-in? That's always been an annoyance to me with the E53 and E46 (330i) - the throttle tip-in is way too aggressive and gives a neck-snap from rest if you're not really careful.

TMC/RT traffic info gets piped in via FM signal. Notice, you can order HD-Radio as well as Sirius.

Sure. The more I think of how it drove the more I like it. Mind you the SAV I drove was very similar in specs to what I have (no sport Package). The ride was very very good, not too stiff but considerably smoother that my X5 and did I say quieter. Handling was very good. I felt it handled on those 18" wheels as good as the 20" Toyos that I have. I did not feel any throttle tip-in but then I did not drive it like a bat out of hell.

Some more opinions:

1. It did not come with Nav but there was a disclaimer when you switch on (talks about not to use controls etc while driving). Surprisingly the disclaimer disappears after 10 seconds or so. I am guessing it MIGHT be the same for navigation screen as well!!

2. Ok this one stumped me. The MPG on the OBC read 11.2. WTF? That is too low for a new engine that is supposed to give much better mileage than the previous models. What was BMW thinking. On my 3.0 I can drive like a mad man and still get 16 mpg in city. If this is the case imagine what the 4.8i would get you.

3. There was something real sweet with the basic/default sound system. It sounded deep, rich and none of the missing frequencies that we have been so accustomed to in the premium sound system. It is oneof the bext sound systems I have heard. Seriously.

4. The one slot CD player (included) plays MP3s so who needs a CD changer!

5. The rear bumper (and it's top part) is black. So no matter what exterior color you get it stays black. Looks awful in any other color than if the exterior is black. I would settle for the black sapphire metallic.

6. I did not feel the added HP in the engine. As with my current X5, it did take some time for the engine to break-in. Perhaps it is the added weight that negates the additional power.

7. Would I buy it? Definitely yes. Is it moddable? Hell yes. I am certain people would have so much fun with wheel upgrades, the electronics and telematics.

At my local dealer they had a 3.0 for 56K and a 4.8 for 61K , the 4.8 most def. needs the aero kit all the plastic made it look like a Jeep Liberty
