Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; PalmSource/Palm-D052; Blazer/4.5) 16;320x320)

Wow, I got off "easy" since the X5 4.8i with all the options I want adds up to $75K which is certainly a bargain compared to a 750iL with similar options!

Basically every option except for active steering (even got HD & Sirius & rear DVD)

if u are going to get all the options, it's a better bet to wait for the si model as it'll come with most options and be priced usally very close to the full option of it's another model

I'd guess that the is/si model will be close to the 90k mark when it comes out.

Why can't BMW stop playing with the model name. Clearly, the last two digits on many models no longer reflect the displacement (right, like all the E90s sold in the US, and more). Now its a play on the letters si/is whatever. BMW needs to quit it because I can barely keep up with all the name changes. (Back in 2002, it took me a year to stop saying/typing 740i)

"is" as in outgoing X5 4.8is. It is the top end performance model. Equivalent of 4.8is will be a top end model for new X5 coming in late 2007/early 2008.

2002? Noob. My first example was the early '90s 318 changed to 1.9 litre, same model designation. Lots of 320/323/325 examples. I am sure they did it prior to that as well. It is a long, proud, tradition!

I only got into cars in, oh.....1999. It's still much earlier than most kids in my age bracket. I remember building a 2001 740i on the build-your-own website Consequently, my friends often come to me for car advice, although granted I don't have much of an opinion on "should I put a carbon fiber hood on my Si?"

What absolutely lured me to BMW was when my uncle had an '02 530i loaner and he put it in manual mode at a stoplight, and zinged it up to 6000rpm in 1st and 2nd gears

Oops this is very off-topic. Ok I'll shaddup now.

"Good deal", Doc...
but, I think I hafta pass.

I "live on" a tad north of 75Gs per year,
these days.

It will be very interesting to see the unit
sales data, from Fred MeLoan, several months
into the new model.

Methinks the marketing geniuses have priced a
semi-well done X5 a tad too high. Lease deals
may keep it moving, but a non-lease buyer is
inundated with other things to do with $65-80 Gs,
and a plethora of car models, these days.

No dis to Xs; I'm sure the new one drives even
"better" than our current crop, but it is a hunk of dough.
