Smile December 2006 BMW Group Sales Report

The December BMW Group sales total of 33,417 units was an all time monthly high for BMW Group in the U.S. and 2006 was the best year ever. BMW Group sales this month increased 15.6% over last December and sales for all of 2006 increased 2.1% over 2005. The 3 Series was the big contributor to this result.

BMW automobile sales were up 19.6% this month and 9.4% for the entire year. X Series sales increased 7.7% in December as a result of the intro of the 2007 X3 and X5. However, X Series sales were down 15.0% for the year.

Sales of the BMW brand were up 16.9% this month and 3.1% for all of 2006.

The Mercedes-Benz sales total of 28,115 units this month represents a 9.9% decline from the 31,192 units sold last December. However, YTD 2006 sales for MB were up some 10.5% thanks to a 67.7% increase in sales for the MB “truck” line.

Lexus sold 37,235 units this month, up only 5.8% over the 35,186 sold last December. Lexus YTD sales for all of 2006 were up 6.5%.

So who is the sales winner or 2006? It depends on what you like to count. BMW wins in automobile sales with Lexus 2nd and MB 3rd. In trucks, Lexus was the winner with MB a distant 2nd and BMW a distant 3rd. Combining cars & trucks gives the trophy to Lexus with BMW 2nd and MB 3rd.

I hope you have enjoyed my sales reports this year. If you have please let me know what you would like added in 2007.

Please note that I report only United States sales data.
