Cruise control Question???

Active and Dynamic... same or different? I have dynamic and I thought it would keep a safe distance from the car in front of me? I almost hit someone today. What is the normal distance? THANKS.

OMG...that must have been scary

active is when you have the radar in front...currently X5s don't have them

dynamic is the one you have and it's a fancy name for BMW's advanced cruise control where the cruise control can control braking along with throttle.

as for distance...don't you remember the guidelines in the DMV's driver's handbook...

BTW- it only brakes to reduce speed on hills, etc. It has no idea who is in front of you.

it's really nice...you can make that car brake/slow down to 20 mph from 70 mph pretty fast...of course not as fast as actually using the brake

If your BMW has active you'd see a black eye in the front bumper.

See for example in this E90 3 series, its got two foglights and a black looking eye in the front bumper... Thats active cruise control...

yeah...

...isn't that a very vulnerable place to put a lense? and it creates imbalance for the front. but then it's either this or those plastic lense grilles on lexus and mercedes vehicles... they could have made it less noticible...unless they have one on the other side....those are the night-visions ones i think...

It does look unsightly like that...I would think it would be fine behind the grille...but whatever.

Actually, that 3 above has some kind of aero kit which makes the lense stick out more. In real life, normal BMWs (like the 5 shown below) dont have it that obvious.
