Placed the order today...

Well, tried to glean all the information I could from all the forums out there, but, compared to m3forum.net, X5 owners (all present company excluded of course), don't seem to frequent boards as much. Understandable, though, especially in light of how new the E70 is.

So, decided on the 3.0l engine. Coming from an M3, my gut said buy the 4.8, but honestly, if what people are saying about the fuel economy is right, then I think I would have been more likely to have ordered a Range Rover Sport SC if I wanted to average 12-14mpg.

The one thing that I really find surprising is how few people are purchasing the Dynamic Handling package, which in Canada includes Active Steering and Adaptive Drive. The dealer performed a cross-country search and found that as of today, there are only three vehicles on order (including mine) with the Dynamic Handling package.

In terms of packages, I ordered Dynamic, Sport, Premium, Activity, PDC, and Logic 7 sound system.

Ordered today, and expected here by March 20th. I plan to share as much as I can on this experience...hopefully it will help others in making their decision.

March 20? Ok, now I'm calling Fields and seeing what the problem is. It's totally absurd to wait until the end of April or even May just to get the car built. And it's not like I have some sort of bizzare options, either. (PP, Cold, Rear Cli, Tech).

2thdr, what is the "activity" pack? We don't get that in the 'states.

Good luck with the new ride.

Activity package in Canada...

...is a combination of Aluminum Running Boards, Ski Bag, Storage Compartment Package, Headlamp Washers.

Sometimes I wonder why there is such a wierd differentiation in options between the US and Canada. For my M3, it worked in my favour, as it basically came fully loaded, except for a rear sunshade.

TrueX5er, the only thing that I can think of is that the US market is proportionally much larger than that in Canada, which may explain the longer wait times?

Hope the time flies, at any rate.

I don't think it would matter which county it is going to?
The aluminum RB's do look nice.
I'm sure the time will go by very, very, slowly.

Spare a thought for your international friends...I ordered mine on May 12th 2006 and won't take delivery until April 28th 2007. That feels way slow!

One of the other reasons I did not purchase a 4.8 is that my dealer stated that they expect the diesel here for calendar year 2008/model year 2009. The diesel is the SUV that I really wanted, but I needed to make a change now for work/family reasons from my M3. I figured it was better to spend less money now, with the 3.0L, and then trade in two years for the diesel, especially when the new 3.5L diesel is available.

TrueX5er, what options did you order on your X5?

Congrats 2thdr,

I guess I am one of the 3 to have ordered Dynamic Handling Package in Canada. I wonder if the 3rd is on the board too! I have the same options with Technology pkg (includes nav), rear climate pkg, rear DVD and 20" rims PDC standard on 4.8i - had it on my 540 and E53 - I think it is great - don't have it on my Z4 - I can reach out and touch the back!

January production - dealer has not given me a delivery date - just says mid February to March. I will have to ask why I do not have a more specific date. Calgary BMW?

I also ordered the aerodynamic kit (backorder)- will post pics when I have it installed.
