4.8i Fuel Economy is HORRIBLE

I just want to give everyone fair warning that the fuel economy on my 2007 4.8i is terrible. The EPA estimates are way too high. I get around 11 - 12mpg in the city and 16 - 17mpg on the highway. All of my other Bimmers match their EPA ratings (which I expected for this one), but it is not even close. I have experimented with all different driving styles and I cannot get this to improve at all. Hopefully they come out with a computer update that corrects this a bit.

Fuel economy aside, I love this SAV. It drives far better than I expected.

If I remeber correctly, it is still a bit better than the M5 on paper but it doesn't mean anything coz the M5 is one big drinker.

Normally MPG will increase after the engine is broken in won't it?

My e46 m3 continues to get better and better gas mileage... 1st 5k miles I was around 12mpg now I'm at about 18-19 now at 18k miles.

What'd you expect? It's a large V8 in a big, heavy car. EPA estimates are always way off. In my 4.4i I managed only about 16-18 with mostly highway. It's mostly driving style, city vs. highway miles, etc. Anyways, congrats on a new E70!

My friend has a 650 and gets 21-22 MPG. I know it is a different vehicle, but that is quite as difference for the same engine.

Do you have the 20" rims? If so, the extra rolling resistance may explain the difference between the published and actual fuel economy.

I only have the 19's. I guess I expected the EPA ratings to be close because all of my other BMW's match their EPA ratings pretty well (and in some cases exceeded them).
