Question about the Rear Video Monitor

Does anyone know if the video screen can get tucked away anywhere? It looks like it is either in the UP posotion or folded down on top of the center console.

My wife wants to get the rear video system but I think it would majorly get in the way when unused, especially with two kids in the backseat.

Those are the two options. I have kept my screen up full time and it hasn't been a problem. The one I will say is that the screen position is very solid and doesn't vibrate or shake over bumps like in our Sienna. The other nuisance is that the DVD has to be restarted from the beginning every time the power goes off...I can't find any way around this. So if you're watching a movie, the kids have to find where it left off to finish watching it.

The video screen restart every drive has to be fixed. I would not buy the system again mostly because of this feature. Instead of having a nice feature for the kids, you will have them screaming at you every time to the point that you have to sit in the back seat and help the little ones get it back to this point. We have a Lexus GX470 as wife's car and she can control it all from our front touch screen and video keeps its place when stopping. Also are able to insert new video's from front seat in the center arm rest. Much better designed system than the BMW.

The restart issue is really strange, I agree that it has to be fixed. I have the DVD system in my 04 and it starts where you left off, unfortunately the engine must be running to change DVD's - and the drive is in the cargo compartment! (It is a thiny disguised Alpine unit).

Have you tried another DVD? I have the DVD function in my W211 and most DVDs restart where you left off but others go back to the beginning.

Confirmed DVD No Good

Confirmed with multiple dvds in my 4.8 and have pm several others with same issue. Will also tell you that the remote is very poorly designed for kids with an menu system on screen using the remote rather than the normal keys being present on the remote. System must also be started with push button at very bottom of console which if kids are in booster will be impossible. Must be a contortionist to reach it from the front seat. If you get this option, plan to spend time in the back seat before getting in the front seat. This will be rethought I am sure. I have seen the new dual screen option with the Canada e70 and this may mean that something better will shortly be coming to US. From a convenience factor, this is a worthless feature.
