Rev Counter Jumping !
From a cold start I have noticed that : I drive off in 1st gear in normal "D" mode, and the vehicle then changes to 2nd gear....as soon as it has shifted, the rev counter jumps to around 2500 rpm as I give more gas as if it is slipping a gear and then suddenly drops down to the revs that 2nd gear would start with??...and then drives normal.....anyone else get this?? |

i have never driven my x5 when it was cold. but on my slk this happens too before the engine warms up. the engine uses a higher rev if its cold and then slowly move down to normal rev as the engine gets warmer. so im guessing its the ecu trying to heat the car up faster??

"Rev Counter" = "Tachometer"
![]() It is not normal for a car, cold or not, with the transmission engaged to jump to 2,500 rpms. At idle it is normal for a "cold" motor to be 100-200 rpms higher then while warm, but not jump thousands. Make sure this issue is the case, if so, take it to the dealer.
