Has anyone tried to order option 840 (speed limit elimination)

Has anyone asked to have the speed restrictions removed as part of their order? How about after purchase as part of a wheel upgrade?

Can you just request this be added?

Not in the US. Even if you have the order code, you can't just ask your sales rep to put it on the order sheet. I'm sure some error will pop up eventually. There have been many attempts with BMW enthusiasts to try and order certain unattainable items on various BMW models, and I haven't heard a success story as of yet. Someone even tried to just get a different wood trim on their 5-series that wasn't avail in the US and even that got rejected.

With the 20in wheels it is an available selection so it is not asking too much - is it?

being in Germany, i guess you want to go a little faster it really depends on how much the 20s cost. does option 840 cost anything?

Standard X5s are limited to 130 mph...why you would want to go faster....?

As far as I know, 150Mph is the only optional upgrade. That limit is only available with the 20s as stated earlier. It's all about the tires.

A lot of companies do this, they just do not make it public knowledge the way BMW does with this option. For instance, my SS has a top speed of 162Mph (fuel cutoff) whereas a standard Z28 is 140 or so, and this is soley because of the tires that came on the car.
