That's such crap. I'm sure if they did do it, they'd charge a ton... but it seems ridiculous that you can't swap out leather for leather that they already make for another country (ex. the saddle brown I wanted to special order) in the very same factory.
Anyone know if buying in Canada is at all an option for US citizens? |

Chains of funding for the business don't all run to one spot, meaning the different branches of BMW (BMW NA, BMW DE, etc..) all have their own specific operations...which is why they don't color swap (seats, trim, door panels, possible carpet, etc.). Canadian cars an option, haven't heard of someone doing it but I'm sure you could find away. That may include buying it in Canada and bringing it in to the states, not sure what the taxes would be on something like that.

Taxes from Canada - as the vehicle is for export and will not be plated in Canada, it should be free of sales tax. Since the car in manufactured in North America is should qualify as duty free. The only issue would be the all important warrranty. That is always an issue with cross-border shopping.

I wouldn't be worried about the Canadian taxes, but moreso the States taxes.

If it affects the warranty, sounds like it might not be worth the risk..

Customs and other taxes kill the deal on a new car. However if you are importing as a 'move', then you get away with that. The dash console will have to reconfigured to miles from KM.
Don't know about warranty for BMW but I know someone who got a Honda and Honda honored the warranty. |

Firstly, in Canada we pay approximately 35% more for these models compared to our U.S. friends ($61,900 base for 3.0is and $73,500 for 4.8 base CDN$) so right there there is a disadvantage. Even with the exchange you would still be 15% higher. Secondly, you would have to find a dealer to sell you one. I know that I looked at doing this the opposite, I was going to buy in the US and import into Canada. BMWNA requires dealer to sign agreements not to sell to non-residents of either country and they also require the vehicle to be registered in the state/Country of sale before delivering to the customer. For me this would mean I would have to pay the taxes in the State I purchased and it is non-refundable. As for the warranty it will be valid throughout NA, but the no-cost scheduled maitenance is void.
