There's talk of something along the 4.8is line that would be out, but I haven't heard anything as to when, so I wouldn't expect it to be in the near future. There's also the X6 (new model) that will be sportier and more powerful, also not officially announced yet.

My guess from what people have been saying and from what I read is that both would be somewhere between $80-100K. Will be interesting to see how they'll be positioned since they may be similar in performance and price tag.

Knowing BMW, it'll be a couple years before they release a top-of-the line performance SAV. Remember how the E53 4.6is debuted in what, 2003? That's 3 years after the release of the X5 4.4i.

I don't mind if BMW takes its time developing it though. As long as its REAL good in the end, that's all that matters.

The problem with taking so long is that it may be obsolete like the 4.6 was and they quickly replaced it with a 4.8. But then I guess that is the name of the game, if they can get you to buy something new every few years they will.

The "is" version will come after the release of X6 early next year. At this time its expected to be out by mid 2008.
