Are you talking about the interior or exterior of the exhaust and/or muffler portion? I used some high temp flat black spray paint to touch up any scratches on the muffler of my previous '04 4.4. It worked fine and is easy to use.

Warranty repair/replacement by dealer, maybe? Are you sure it is actual paint or powdercoat that is peeling? Or just soot in the tailpipe?

Denalio - I have the same exact problem except much worse - about 50 % has peeled off. I sent it to the dealer and they where perplexed how they where going to repair. Your are correct, they are welded and BMW informed the dealer that they wont replace the entire exhaust for this.
I have a feeling that this will happen again as they probably did not prep the chrome for painting. I guess the dealer will paint, same as i could do. What a shame for a 70K vehicle. Going back on tuesday for that and tire cupping on the front tires. I'll keep you updated. Nice options, i have the same vehicle.
