Trying to switch from x3 to x5 in Canada..Need some opinions..

Hello. I got this brand new X3 3.0is M-pkged +premium last month. And it's just got 1k km on it. The retail price was 62k plus tax, and paint /leather coating and tire warranty(not transferrable to the new car) costed me about another 1.5 grands. But for some stupid and unexpected reason, I need to trade the car in for X5. So I took the car to dealer, and he said he will credit me for just 52k and of course, i was told that it's the best he can do.
Ohh, and the dealer said he'll give 2.5k off the x5 4.8i, which is a big discount for new X5 according to this dealer.
Had the car for just 1 month and put 1k km on it, and depreciation is more then 10 grands. What do you guys think about this quote I got?
Should I try different dealership in town? BTW I live in Vancouver.

10k hit for 1k miles is lot. The dealer will take from you and sell again for close to same price he sold you for and make money again. He may have some CPO expenses, but they are not $10k. You can try another dealer or sell yourself online. You don't have to restrict yourself to city you live in. Get on the phone and email and call dealers in all sorrunding areas.

It isn't $10K for 1000 km, it is $10K for driving it off the lot. At that point in time it became a used vehicle. It is tough to hear, but not surprising. You can try and sell it privately, but you aren't going to get new value for it no matter how lucky you get. Tough break. Do you have to switch to the X5?

Well, I knew the first depreciation would be big, not this much. I think dealer would retail the car for about $59~60k, then they make an easy $7k. Maybe this dealership is trying to take advantage of me knowing that I am serious about trading the car in?

And I don't have to get a x5 but I know I'll be stressed if I keep the x3.

Well, now I learned that buying a car need some serious research and consideration of different aspects.

Man it looks like the stealership is really marking you down, but like previously mentioned its lost its title as "new" when you drove it off the lot. Its known that once its driven you've basically lost around 10k off the original price. Try going to another dealership...

I'd guess part of his "stress" is having paid an extra $1500 CDA for
"paint /leather coating and tire warranty(not transferrable to the new car)"...
none of which, with the slight possible exception of the tire
"warranty", are worth a dime.

What JCL said, is right on: drive off, the "value" peels like a shedded
snake skin. Some Stlrs might be more amenable to their current customers.

No-one is going to buy a used vehicle for only $2 -3k less than they can just get it brand new, untouched. Especially when you're talking about a 60k vehicle. They won't get more than 55 - 57k would be my guess. Private party is probably your best way to go, unless you know someone that can sell it retail. Try ebay and whatever other outlets you have up there to sell it privately. You might be able to get 55 or so, since it's practically brand new and the warranty is so good, people won't be as concerned about it not being Certified Pre-Owned.

Well, dealer himself admitted that it will be sold for around 58~9k in open market.
Anyways, I want to trade the car in cuz of the luggage space. I need to carry 4 golf bags and 4 people without golfbags being seen from outside. I usually go for meal/drink and hang around after playing golf and the tremendous number of thievery in Vancouver made me make such decision. I didn't factor that in when I was shopping, and i know, one of the stupidiest mistake made by me.

Anyways, Such depreciation is just too hard to swallow. So I think I'll just stick to x3 for an year or 2 and then get x5 when there's no new-production period problems :p j/k

Thanks guys for your comments.
