Dealer Clear Hood Protector

Ordering and X5 and noticed BMW offers a clear hood and front bumper clear film. I am sure they will tell me it is the greatest in the world. Have anyone had this versus other after market brands such as 3M or Clearshield?

I can't comment on differences between the brands but I had the clear film on one of my previous vehicles (dealer installed). Now, I live in Calgary and city seasons the streets over the winter with gravel to improve traction on icy roads so you will inevitably get some chips. Did it protect the paint - it did, but the chipped film looks just as bad as chipped paint. So if you are not going to remove it periodically and reapply it I guess it doesn't make much difference.

I will see what the dealer says about their product when I order the car Saturday. I know you can remove and replace these products so as long as it looks good less cost may be better.

I do not have gravel issue here but just the small rocks kicked up by the semi trucks.
