Can someone check this x5 pricing? I may be getting ripped...

hey everyone, this is my first post over here at x5 world, but I have been active on the modding scene over at e46fanatics for a few years. My parents are about to drop a ton on an 3.0 x5 with literally every option available except the new 3rd row seats. I just wanted to see what you guys thought about the pricing for the number of features I have listed below. We currently have a rx330 on lease (it ends in 4-5 months, we want out early)....my parents are set on the new mineral green color and as I said before pretty much want every option available..... I have gone to 3 dealerships: Prestige BMW (Repeat customers), JMK BMW (Good friends with Tommy G, runs the autobody shop there), and Park Ave BMW. They have all given us pretty much the same price, but after posting this thread on e46 (http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=465927) it got me thinking that maybe we are getting screwed.

Thats MSRP and I we have negotiated down to around 65,500 (they may be able to do slightly better)

What do you guys think we should do? Also one member on e46 said that he thought many of these "options" would become standard on the 08 model....

We really don't know what to do, maybe a road trip somewhere within reason if the price is right? Maybe the v8?

Thats an excellent deal.
I have a nearly identical model and the best I could get was $1800 off.

btw, why would you think you are getting ripped w/ a $4k+ discount???

You dont need both active vent seats AND multi contour.

Right now thats an excellent deal. Most X5's are being bought for around 500-1500 off of MSRP...

you'll be the first on the board (to my knowledge) with 4000 off...

Maybe 9-10 months from now after demand has cooled off 4000 off would be just an O.K. deal...

With that being said, the E46 guys are right that 65 is still steep for just 260hp... If it were my money, I'd untick a few options and get the V8 for the same price. I just maxed one out, and then removed Active Steering & Ventilated Seats bringing it to 70,000 MSRP (also didn't put on the 20" wheels - but the 3.0si doesn't come with the 20" wheels). For $400 dollars more your getting an extra 100 hp, which makes quite a difference in a vehicle that heavy... Even with those options left on, it comes out just under 75 - and then bargain them down to 70.

My point is, the extra hp is worth it. If your parents really don't want the extra power thats fine, 4k off is a good deal - but bang for buck (and from a resale point of view) the 4.8 makes more sense...

If you had all the options that would mean you paid less than the dealer. A fully equipped 3.0 is over $70k

thank you guys so much for your input, it is really great to see another forum that actually takes the time to help out the new guys.

So the general consensous is that we should minimize some of the options and go for the larger engine?

Also what do you guys think about the comfort access? is it worth it?

I have a fully loaded 3.0 and have no reservations....I am very happy with my purchase.

Regarding CA...would not do w/o it. It is one of my favorite features.

I traded in my '02 X5 4.4i for an '06 530xiT with N52 engine. While I appreciate the N52 for its fuel efficiency (26-27 MPG open road), tractibility, and overall superb manners, I sadly miss the low end grunt of a V8. Sitting in stop and go traffic, my 530 sports wagon feels alot bigger than my X5, despite weighing 1000 lbs less, simply because the N52 engine can't spool up fast enough to dive into a lane opening from a dead stop. That being said, I can imagine the condition being alot worse with an X5 equipped with the straight 6. The N52 engine performs best at 4000 rpm or higher and does quite splendidly on the open highway with the Steptronic set in sports mode.

That being said, I'd opt for the V8 in an X5 and sacrifice any creature comforts that are expendable . It's a beast of a car in terms of curb weight; it is probably best enjoyed when equipped with a beast of an engine.

Knock off the ventilated seats and HUD. Leave off the rear shades and get the a darker tint of privacy is what you want. Although others might disagree, I'd get rid of the comfort access which I consider a nuisance after 3 weeks of experience with it. IMHO, get the V8. It's worth it.

i highly recommand the v8 with less option then the 3.0si. personally i think the 3.0 is somewhat under powered for a suv and a lot of the options you could do without..

i love the comfort access though..
