Best way to protect hood?

We've had our 4.8i since late February and we are slowly noticing little marks and such on the paint- mostly the hood. We already had to have the car buffed due to some strange white surface marks but now you can see the swirls. I guess we need to get a non-dealer full detail eventually. Anyway, what are the best options out there to protect the hood? I know there are clear bras but are those risky after having the car on the road for a few months? Any suggestions?

best way to protect it is not to drive!

Bmw is known for lousy paint due to the fact its water based and not oil based. But tons of people use the clear bras and most stay on for a couple years or more if installed right.

Get a 3M clear bra ($500-$600) and quit tailgating!

3m

I have the 3m film (professionaly installed) on my '05 Chevy SSR and love it.
I recommend you claybar and wax the painted surface prior to applying film so it retains its deep shine. The film can then be waxed normally and will retain a shine as well.

I will install the 3m on my new X5 once I order and receive it.

Good Luck

Hey LOP,

What did you use to remove any wax build-up along the edges of the 3M film?

I have the Xpel clear bra(3M) on all my cars. They have done a good job protecting the hood.

A very fine brush and a light hand...no problems and no build up.

You can see some of my pics at the following link.
