Question Rooftop carrier recommendations

I am lokking at getting a rooftop carrier for my '07 X5. The BMW one is $320.00 for the rails and $1,795.00 for the box (CDN$). Anyone have one of these and are they woth the money? Any other suitable aftermarket carriers avialable for this model?

Great Thule set-up

This is what I use on the E53 and I am fairly sure it will fit the E70 just fine.

Nice set-up. This fits in your garage? How high is your garage door?

Garage door height

Garage door height is 100 inches. In other words, when the door is up there is about 100 inches of clearance in my garage. I do not need that much height as I still have plenty of room to open the top all the way when I am parked in the garage.

I shopped around for a roof top cargo setup for a few months. After looking at several offerings by Thule, Yakima and BMW, I went with the BMW base support system rails and a Thule Atlantis 1600.

While I'm not always a big fan of BMW accessories, the base supprt system (cross rails) for the X5 are first rate quality. I tried the Thule rails out, but the BMW rails are much nicer. Also, I was able to get them from my local Stealer for the same price as the Thules.

As for the box, I'm very happy with the Thule Atlantis. It is well designed, good quality, and good looking. I just drove over 2,200 miles with it and it is very quiet even at 80+ MPH!!

You should check out inno. i have the low down cruiser..and its amazing..can fit four snowboards or 2 short surfboards. It gives the car a much cleaner look and low on clearance...making it possible to still park in parking garages.
