I'm getting 22.0 to the gallon (imperial) - about 18.3 MPG (US) - after about 3500 miles.

Out of interest why did you not go for the 3.0 ? Looking at your sig you are obviously a petrol fan with two previous petrol X5's!

I currently have a 535d until my sd arrives next month and am addicted to the torque! Unless I get another M/// BMW I can't see me going back to petrol. Each to their own obviously

The main reason was to do with getting an earlier build slot. The next one will be a diesel.

I have almost 3k miles and getting about 24 Hwy and a lousy 15 on the streets.

Please keep in mind that each individual numbers that you will receive are based on driving habits and where people commute everyday. I live in a hilly area so I'm actually pleased that I'm still getting 15 mpg on the streets.

I have about 15k miles on my e70 and I usually get 16~17 mpg for local and freeway combined condition. I would say 60% local and 40% freeway.

PSS: you'll get nearly identical gas mileage in the 2004+ 4.4 V8 model of the X5
