Firstly check your key/memory settings on iDrive.

The bulletin was for a different issue regarding the steering wheel positioning but the solution might be relevant in your case. The solution was a software update which is expected in September 07.

I had the same steering wheel issue with my X5 after delivery, where the wheel moved down instead of up when opening the door . Someone else posted a fix and it worked perfectly for me: move the steering wheel to the maximum settings in each direction (up, down, forward and back). This apparently re-calibrates the wheel position and corrects the problem.

I also just got the most recent software update last week and had to repeat the above procedure to correct the issue again. So this trick has worked twice for me with two different software versions.
