New e70 arrived tuesday - after 700 miles - some thoughts!
Have just driven from the south coast in england to nancy in eastern france (via the ferry!) Its got the dynamic pack, 20" Y spoke, running boards, media pack and 6fl ipod connector, hifi upgrade, sun protection, 3.0 se diesel. Heres my thoughts.... - Oh my god does it drive better than the old sport - it drives better than a 5 series! It doesnt bob around and I dont even have the adaptive drive pack! - Sports seats - OW having spent 10 hours in the car. these REALLY hurt. they have a gap either at your head or the base of your spine depdning on how you position the chair. If your going to buy sports seats at least buy lumber support or youll regret it. In fact dont bother with sports seats just buy comfort ones. - MPG - 4 ladden and full to the nines.....25.2 mpg. mainly motorway driving at 85-90mph. Pleased with that as my old DMS tuned 7 diesel only managed 26 mpg with just me in it!. - 6fl ipod usb with cable - Simply the greatest invention ever....why do they even bother to fit the dash cd player and cdchanger? We just put it on random and still had another 12000 tracks to listen to when we arrived! Aswome. - 7 seats - a complete waste of time. we tried putting some adults in it this evening and it didnt work. Id save the £1500 and spend it on somehting else. - Hifi sytem - Id listed to the dsp system in the showroom and its awsome. My new one only has the hifi upgrade and do you know what its easily as good as the logic 7 system I had in my m6. The dsp is amazing but at nearly £1000 its excessive. I thought i coudnt live without it based on what I had in the m6/7 series but for £300 you simply HAVE TO HAVE the hifi system. It really is very good. It has base and depth. Theyve really raised the bar on the new e70 dsp system and youve got to really want it to justify the money. if youve got logic 7 today the hifi system will impress. - Steering - the steering is heavy compared to the old X at love speed. Im going to have to try it with active steering...I hated in a 5 I had but im sure they must have imporved it. - Why do I need so many silly buttons on the dash with numbers on? yes im sure they serve a purpose...but they look silly and I have no need for them.... - people - I had three people drool over the car today...complete strangers at different times. had a guy come up to me at the ferry terminal and asked to sit in it and take a picture! There cant be many on the road yet as I was somewhat suprised. And mine doesnt even have the aero kit... - Super guard - You simply must does this! Drove all that way today. Storms, water , mud etc. Pointed a hose at it this evening and hey presto new car again......an amazing coating layer technology and well worth the £300. Also my motherinkaw spill some orange on the leather, it wiped straight off....very cool leather protection. - headlights - I read the manual - it says take off the cover. flick switch. you can now drive on the other side of the road. The manual lies. The headlights are buried under the wing. You cant see in them or get to them...thanks bmw. I gave up. Oh and there crap. BUY XENON LIGHTS. In rain the standard headlights are rubbish. Ive had xenons for years and I now feel blind. Seriiusly YOU MUST BUY XENONS. I feel better now. when you spend so long in one journey in a car you get to find things you hate. I really didnt find that much. A couple of squeaks Im going to have to get the dealer to deal with and the god damn annoying sports seats. apart from that I love it. Like a 7 series with big wheels. Would be nice if you could get adaptive cruise on it, and soft close doors, but apart from that a seven all the same for £20k less specced to the same level. Ive got an 3.0SD individual ordered for next year, but I think I may call the dealer when I get back and order a 3.0d sport with comfort seats for september as an interim car as I dont think I can put up with the sports seats longer than 3 months! And finally...why the hell cant we get BMW online in the UK on the e70 anymore? OMG what will I do now? On my m6 / 7 it was the easiest way to get email. Even whilst in motion. Its been dropped from the options list on the e70 as takeup wasnt big enough........ Hope this helps... Jess

My headlights are more than enough. btw- I disagree on the Logic 7 point, if I understand you correctly...I can hear the difference between the two stereos and would not settle for the lesser option. The Logic 7 system sounds so good, its one of the reasons I enjoy my X5 so much. The demo I drove didnt have this option and I was not impressed. Thanks again for the nice review, please post some photos asap.

morning....
headlights....changing from driving on the left to driving on the right...( a problem for anyone with a rhd going to mainland europe or the other way round has)......Dont even bother to try and change the pitch of the headlights...the manual says its easy, but its not.. On the logic 7 front.....your right I wasnt writing enlgih I was tired! If your coming out of a different bmw (5/6/7) that has the logic7 or an e53 with dsp then the "hifi upgrade" will easility sound as good as youve already got and if your happy with that dont pay the premum for new dsp system. The bar has been raised so much with the new dsp system on the e70 that it is simply amazing amd worth the money only if your into your audio.... hope that helps...
