Trunk space with 3rd row

Wondering whether any owner here who has ordered the 3rd row has any pics of their trunk? How big is the trunk area with the 3rd row sitting upright? What can you put in there with the 3rd row sitting upright (for example, any chance of a larger travelling bag)?

Real world 3rd row pictures

Read this thread earlier in the week so took the opportunity to do some experimenting here are the results:

Photo 1: Shows a standard carry-on size bag in the trunk (22x17.5x10 in, 56x45x25 cm). It only just fits this way round - so some carry-ons may have to be on their side.

Photo 2: shows same from the side.

Photo 3: shows same bag but with tailgate closed. Important here is how the space narrows above the bag.

Photo 4: unrelated - here is a picture of me sitting in the 3rd row. I am 5ft 6in. The 2nd row is as far forward as allowed, and the backrest in its most vertical position. As you can see from the angle of my legs it is not the most comfortable, but it is bearable. Incidentally my shoe size is a uk size 8. That is the biggest shoe you can fit in the space between 2nd and 3rd row.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the pics. I'm waiting for a 4.8 demo (or when the twin-turbo diesel comes out) with the 3rd row to see if I can fit my kids in the seats.
I mainly need the 3rd row for longer drives with my wife and 3 kids aged 2,3 & 8yrs.

Man, those 3rd row headrests are seriously ugly with the metal supports showing. I wonder why BMW made them that way?

Great pics Stumpy! Thanks for the effort to help fellow E70ers. That 3rd row is very cramped and unless you are into torturing your adult passengers, the trips must be short and the people even shorter. I think it's really kids only space. My old '95 Land Cruiser has more room in the 3rd row!

Also as mentioned in other threads, having the 3rd row means less spectacular (not as thick/comfy) set of rear seats (2nd row). This was the dealbreaker for me... no 3rd row plans here anymore.

The 3rd row is pretty much same deal on competition in Audi Q7 and MDX. Meant for kids only.

Check this thread for 2nd row comparison pics with Audi and Cayenne.
