Issues with iPhone and BMW Bluetooth???

Hi Guys...

While my X5 is in the shop awaing a new iDrive control module, the dealer kindly gave me a 328i loaner to drive with Bluetooth. The iPhone and 3 pair up great, but when it comes to making a call, the audio quality is horrible. The first couple of seconds, the other party comes in choppy and can barely be heard. It's a hit or miss problem, sometimes people come in clear and others, I can't hear a thing they are saying. I know its not a reception issue because when I switch to phone, the audio is clear as can be. I search e90post.com and others have been having the same issue.

My question is: How is the bluetooth quality with the E70 Bluetooth? Because I don't expect my car back till the end of the month, I'm definetly going to return the iPhone if I can't get the Bluetooth to work right with my E70. Most of my mobile conversations take place when in my car, so I rely on bluetooth quite heavily for a majority of my mobile calls.

I'd really love to hear your feedback... Thanks again!

Chris

Unfortunately, this Iphone blue tooth integration with the BMW will be a hit and miss thing. Since the BMW blue tooth is considered an after market BT from the Iphone's perspective, the pairing would still be okay but the quality will suck intermittently. Certain phone manufacturers have recommended BT products to pair with their phones. I'm trying to do my own little research to find out who actually made the "phone" part on the Iphone and who made the Blue Tooth part on the E70. This should give us a better idea if compatibility will be an issue. Hopefully somebody in this forum might have some of the answers.

Actually BMW and Apple colaborated on this and it should pair perfectly.

I dont have any issues with my X5 and iPhone...it works great!

Exactly X5FX... I heard about the wifi, but that didn't really do anything to improve the bluetooth connection. I guess I'll just keep the phone for now, unless I heard otherwise.

try deleting the phone and re-pairing.

Thanks for the tip...but i've tried that too I don't think there is anything to fix it, short of BMW or Apple updating the software.

That's what I meant from my earlier post. Yes, BMW said that they corraborated with Apple with the BT. It was mostly done on BT specs not on actual testing. Think about this. Before the 1st batch of Iphones were produced for AT&T to test, the E70's were already out there so the actual testing was never done. They made sure that the BT module in the car would pair with the phone based on the specs but the actual call quality was not tested and guaranteed. Same thing applies for any brand phone and bluetooth headset. Unless you have the same brand phone and BT headset, the call quality is hit and miss. I went through about a dozen BT headsets before I can find the right one for my phone. To be honest, I don't think the software upgrade will even make a difference but who knows, maybe it will work perfectly when you get your E70 just like a few others out there. For me, I'm happy with my $99 dollar Plantronics BT headset with Audio IQ enhanced sound. Works and sounds better than pairing with any car BT module. Good luck!
