Is there any chance that this is an iPod problem? Perhaps the iPod freezes or fails in some fashion and the car reverts to FM once the iPod signal is lost?
What types of iPods are people having issues with? I used to have an Alpine radio with an iPod connector and my iPod mini would freeze/disconnect every now and then. I now have a nano and it performs well with the 6FL option. |

I'm having this issue with a nano and I've never had any issues with it on its own or when I used it in my Infiniti. So, I don't think it's an issue with the iPod itself.

iPods
I've tried it with an iPod Video (whatever the latest generation is; it's fairly new), 2nd Gen. iPod Nano as well as an iPhone. All have the same problem.

Mine does it sometimes after Ive stopped and restarted the car. Its really annoying as I have to go back into the aux menu. Also noticed that the menu comes up as a playlist when I do that rather than whatever I had like genre or songs.....
Also drops the "random" setting......all a bit rubbish really.

There is an SIB on this, stating a software failure as the cause. According to BMW there is a fix being worked on which should be ready in September. The SIB also lists other known issues with the USB connection
The SIB is 65 08 07 |

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho....php?p=2402544 Unless I missed something, the SIB does identify the problem but doesn't make reference to a software fix in September. From pp 5-6 of the SIB, under "Known Issues": "2. During operation, the Entertainment source spontaneously switches from audio device (iPod, MP3 player) to FM radio: ¡ Select the audio device as the Entertainment source manually. Disconnect/reconnect the device concerned if necessary."
That fix doesn't work on mine, and I don't see a reference to a software fix. Is there a supplement to this SIB or did you hear it from the dealer? If nothing else, it confirms that BMW knew about the issue as of May (nice of them to keep selling the option without telling folks BTW), but I'd like to confirm that they know their published fix is BS. |

I have tried two different i-Pod Nano's via the 6FL USB hub and both crap out to FM at completely random intervals. Thought that Traffic Info may be interupting so switched off TP - didn't help. Even happens when the car is stationary with the engine off. Might load some tunes onto a memory stick and try that out.
Thing is though, I spec'd the 6FL instead of the 6 disc CD changer. The changer can't be retro fitted and I need my sounds. At the moment my Hi-fi speaker upgrade is going to waste, not to mention my new I-Pod bought specially for the car. I mentioned this fault to a main dealer (not my supplying dealer) who acted all suprised. IMHO he wasn't a very good actor. Taking my X5 back to my supplying dealer tomorrow so they can attempt to fix the fault. Ironically, exactly one week after I took delivery of it. P***ed Off that my new car has a fault - so much so that I haven't posted any pics of it yet, I don't care if 6FL is only a £205 option - it is part of a £50K car and everything should work flawlessly. I'll let you know how I get on. The I-Pod interface lead (for the glovebox)is potentially an alternative fix but I can't say I'm over-joyed at this prospect. I don't even know if I should consider it - BMW has to get the 6FL working... ...don't they????? Last edited by X5JDX; 07-12-2007 at 07:07 PM. |
