from the BMW site-

Sport Package
  • 19 x 9.0 Star Spoke (Style 212) light-alloy wheels, and 255/50R-19 run-flat all-season tires
  • 10-way power front sport seats with 2-way manual thigh support adjustment, and memory system for driver's seat, steering wheel and outside mirrors
  • 3-spoke power tilt/telescopic leather-wrapped multi function sport steering wheel
  • Adaptive Drive: includes Active Roll Stabilization and Electronic Dampening Control
  • Anthracite headliner
  • Shadowline Trim
But the suspension upgrade is part of the package

Wow, I never paid attention to the fine print. When I got my 1st X5 (E53) 2004 3.0, I got the sport package because it has the sport suspension, at least that's what my sales person told me. Again for the E70, I was told that the sport package comes with a sport suspension. Is this just a complete misinformation from everybody saying a sport package has sport suspension?

The Active Roll Stabilization and Electronic Dampening Control is what the salespeople are referring to when they say the Sports Package on the E70 includes the Sport Suspension. Why does this seem to be illogical to some here?

Remember that some(most) markets are entirely different to the US...as mentioned previously the Sport package in Australia includes the seats, headlining, wheels etc and "Sport suspension settings" which are just different shocks. The Adaptive drive is a standalone option and when ordered deletes the "sports suspension settings" that are included in the Sports pack if you also chose that option !!!! Check with your local brochure or dealer.

Not to speak for others but not everybody including my self are not that well versed with the terminology and technical car specs. That's one of the reason my I joined this forum is to learn from the so called experts, including your self.

Forgive the ignorance and thank you for the input.

Like others have mentioned, different markets have different items in their packages, including the sports package. I didn't know that other markets didn't get Dynamic Drive as part of their Sport Packages until coming to this forum

I'm very happy that BMW decided to include it as part of the Sports Package in the US. Dynamic Drive was a huge factor in choose the X5 over its competitors such as the Cayenne, which makes it an option, even in the Turbo trim. A 3,500 dollar option on the Porsche, which makes the BMW sport package a bargain!

i bought my x5 new back in 2002 and got all options and i think the sports package is well worth it, and for the e53's, the sports package did have different suspension, the new ones just come with the same set-up, springs!

Yes,...that's the way it is in the U.S.

For comparision purposes, I have taken the following information from the Canadian BMW site....

Sport Package:
Includes: AG Sport Package, (3 Spoke Leather Sport Steering Wheel, High-Gloss Shadowline, Anthracite Roofliner, Sport Suspension, Sport Seats, 19" Star Spoke Alloy Wheels - Style 212).

Dynamic Handling Package:
Includes: Active Steering, (Replaces Sport Suspension when ordered with Sport Package), Adaptive Drive, (Includes Active Roll Stabilization and Electronic Damper Control).

Who knows what sort of weird thinking process went into BMWs' decision to market these two various systems/packages so differently based on them being in the U.S or Canadian market. Strange, but true!
