Question ISOFIX child seat

i want to buy 2 isofix child seats(twin gilrs) for my M5/X5 and i was wondering if isofix has an weight/age limit. I checked on a BMW accessory brochure and the isofix Junior seat II says that isofix is limited to 18kgs. Does this apply to all isofix seats in general, or only the BMW versions? cuz if it does apply to all isofix, then i'll just buy the regular child seats.

thanks!

See middle slide on page 5 on this document. http://www.rospa.com/roadsafety/conf...dings/lang.pdf

I think this is saying that the weight restriction of the child seat (CRS) is 15kg. The other weight restriction referrring to the child itself will be dependeant on the make and model of the seat, I don't think that will be restricted to 18kg.

I use a maxi cosi cabrio fix with the easyfix (ISOFIX) base for my son and have a priori fix on order to ship over here to the US.

I don't think that ISOFIX standards have any weight restriction, but the standard is primarily for installation compatability without the use of a seatbelt. Generally any you will not find any manufacturers making ISOFIX carseats for children weighing over 18 kg / 40lbs because at that age/weight they are no longer required by law to sit in a carseat. They should be either on booster seats using regular seatbelts usually. ISOFIX anchors are the same as LATCH anchors in the usa but the difference is the supporting leg which is also a requirement for the isofix standard.

Here in the US there are ZERO ISOFIX carseats on the market. Although they are sturdier and safer, I think the Cost of these seats is a major issue. Typically here in usa a infant seat is anywhere from $60 - $250, and toddler seats from $ 100 - $299 at most. The price I paid for my infant seat and ISOFIX base was close to $500 USD. The forward facing ISOFIX carseats cost close to $600 USD. These prices are unheard of here in the usa.
