bmw Assist?

Hi
how do I get the assist to work i am in the uk i have faxed a application to bmw from the form on the website what happens next ?

In US we test by pressing the assist button and the operater will confirm your location.

Use iDrive central info menu | BMW Services | profile

Once they've processed the form your car's colour, chassis number and registration number will appear here. Once this happens, you are able to access the services. BTW, it's not too great.

It took about 10 days to get ours active. The dealer faxed the form off the day we got the car (despite me telling them twice "make sure you fax it a couple of weeks before we get the car so its active when we pick it up"...). You go in to the settings option ("i") to activate it. If it's all greyed out, it's not active. Once it is active, you use it from the communications menu. I've yet to use it but will have to try it, it sounds very impressive and useful - especially if you end up breaking down in the middle of nowhere as you just hit your "sos" button and ask for help, and they know your exact position from your GPS. Tomorrow when we are out in the car, I think I'll test it and ask for something like "closest macdonalds" and see what happens. It's free for 6 months with the new car and then around £300 per year after that, so I may aswell test it whilst it's free and work out whether it's worth keeping past the free trial.

Can they also open the doors and also locate your vehicle if stolen (assuming that the thief doesn't rip out the TCU unit of course !!

yes, it can do both.
Although they can only unlock the drivers door.

In Australia BMW can tell you where your cars is but that is all, they cannot demobilise it. There is a seperate option that BMW sell that is via another company in each capital city that can do this, I think it cost around $4,000.

BMW also cannot unclock a door, these features are not available here.

Yeh, we were supposed to be able to get internet access and our emails etc on the screen but the ADR in Australia canned it, it sucks we are always the last to get things.

Anyway dropped the X5 back today at the dealer as the new control arms failed to fix the problem. The head BMW tech flew in again today to check the car but doing camber adjustments is not going to fix the problem as it is a castor problem.

Told them them to put the old control arms back in as the they ain't as bad as the new ones, which they are going to do tomorrow as it is a full days work.

I have made my mind up and I am giving the x5 back to BMW, not going to put up being a gennie pig while they play around for the next 3 months trying to find a solution.

Because of how the new front end is setup getting castor adjustment cannot be done so doing these other adjustments is just forcing the X5 to drive up the camber of the road which will just crubb out the front tyres.

Back to your new X5 are you happy with it? is what you thought it would be?

The new X5 does drive a lot better than the old one it's just I got a lemon?

So is it just your car or do others in Australia have the same problem (if there are any spec'd the same ?)... My car is great .. Love the diesel engine (never had a diesel before).. ride with standard suspension is great although it there is some roll into corners and it can get a but wavy on concrete roads.. but nothing too dramatic...It's a very easy car to drive and love the i-drive now... I've posted a quick review in another post as well as some pics... Hope they get the car sorted... will you get a new one spec'd the same ?
