Cayenne is a lot uglier but slightly faster and has better sound. Eats a fair bit more gas and rides harsher. nuff said

I test drove the new Cayenne in S and Turbo form extensively before choosing the 4.8i. BTW, I'm a huge Porsche fan and have had 2 996 (4S/Turbo) and 997 S prior to trading up for a larger vehicle.

The interior is one area the Cayenne need serious improvement, and it's still not any better. It's just as dated as the old one, and the old model was behind the times. I could never get comfortable with the seats and the ride of the non-air suspension models are seriously stiff and bouncy.

For me, the difference was the availability of the Dynamic Ride package on the X5, and at the time, I couldn't find a Cayenne in my area with the option. I also don't care for the looks, and the borrowed switches from lesser VW products.

It's no doubt a great SUV, and probably the one I'd get if I didn't get the X5.

I never test drove one as I could not figure out the option list. It went on and on and on and on. There is one dealer in our city of over 1,000,000 and he is way the other side of town. The couple he had on boats were $80,000 ish for an S. The X5 4.8 was close enough I figured and better in some ways.

If you are serious test drive one and decide yourself. I had three options in my final list the the X5 was the clear winner.

I cant get past the 'toad' looks of the cayenne... and the interior of the X5 is light years ahead.

Should have stuck with the 911.

I'm a Porsche guy but the X5 4.8 is the better overall vehicle.
I drove them both extensively as well and I haven't looked back.
