Angry Diesel engine question....

I have searched the forums and can't find an answer so here goes....I know the new 4.8 does not have a dipstick to check the oil. My question to you guys that have a new diesel....Is there a dipstick on your engine?? I can't believe BMW has eliminated it on the 4.8 but am wondering about the new diesels coming to the USA. Thanks.

I have a Diesel E90 which does have a dipstick, but the petrol E90's do not.

In a petrol E90 you can check the oil level via the onboard computer.

The thing that really surprised me with the dipstick is that in the manual it says that you should check the oil level when the engine is warm. In all my previous cars you always checked the oil level when the engine was cold and all the oil had dripped back into the sump!

Yeah, I have an e90 335i, and the iDrive screen showing the oil level won't even show any information until the oil temp is over 160degF or so.
