Euro Detachable Hitch Install

For those interested I have installed the Westfalia on my new E70 X5 it took about 1 1/2 hours excluding the electrics which I still have to do (The kit I have is not oem and uses a 7 way bypass relay) The procedure was very simple but be carefull

1. Remove the relfective lenses from the black part of the bumper
2. Remove the bolts from behind the lenses
3. Remove the six bolts from underneath the bumper
4. You need to loosen to black wheel arch trim to get at a screw behind the trim, I did this by pushing in the centre section of the rivet and then pulling out the rivet I only need to do this on the bottom two. The problem was that the rivets dont refit great so I think I need to get new ones
5. The bumper is now free from all mechanical fastenings and just needs to be gently but strongly pull the trim away. It is easy to break a plastic clip here so take your time.
6. Now with the bumper removed you need to remove a piece of the plastic to allow the tow bar come out (So called bumper cut), this is easy to do as there is a scribe line in the underside of the bumper to follow with. I used a fine tooth jig saw. I also loosened a couple of the PDC to give me some slack on the bumper.
7. Remove the old metal bumper carrier but removing the eight bolts.
9. Fit the new bumper bar and torque up the eight new special bolts supplied.
10. Fit the electrical socket and route the cable to the grommet hole over the right hand side exhaust pipe.
11. Refit the bumper and screws as well as the red lenses.

I will follow up with the bypass relay later

Later All
