Where was Diesel E70 assembled?

I know gasoline X5s were made in US with engine and gearbox from Germany, but anyone know where the diesel X5s were assembled?

I always think that's funny, when I'm back in Germany and I see an X5, a MBZ ML or even a Z4. The engines and transmissions are assembled in Germany or sometimes France, most parts are made in Europe too. Everything is shipped to the USA, the car is built....and then everything is shipped back to Europe.

What can I say? Deutschland has very high labor costs...........plus there's the appreciating Euro. The X3 is also shifted to the US starting in 2010.

Very high labour costs, yes! But IMO, the highest quality of assembly and pride anywhere in the world. I would gladly pay more for a German built X5. Anyday!! Aber, das ist meine Meinung!!

Aber BMW muss die Kosten verringern um zu konkurrieren.

As a firm, BMW has to be profitable. I don't like the idea of BMW making their 5ers in China (for the Chinese market only), but oh well.

Well, JD Power said the Ford Wixom plant had higher quality than any auto plant in the world that produced cars for the U.S. market, beating all the BMW facilities in Germany.

Unfortunately, that is a plant Ford will be closing.

That would be an outstanding waste of money. My M3 was built in Germany...sure enjoyed the weatherstripping falling off after 1,000 miles...that was cool. My 545 was made in Germany, had numerous noted issues with that...and my current 645...oh, built in Germany....

That's probably a function of the part quality not the manufacturing quality.
