Sunroof tint - has anyone got this done ?

I'm thinking about getting tinting done on the sunroof... I have it on the side and rear windows.. I guess it would be pretty straight forward ? Anyone done this ?

Thanks

Yes, I did.

My previous car has a big sunroof but had no tint. So when ever driving under sunshine, I can feel the heat from the shade, even it is closed.

So on my new X5, I tint it with 3M 8803. So far, I don't feel any heat from above my head.

I also got the panoramic sunroof tinted with Huper Optik ceramic film. Personally I like the additional light that the pano lets it and with the tint there is less heat.

Not absolutely sure. But when I went to have my sun roof tinted the tint shop highly recommend against it. Said the heat build up on the sun roof can cause it to shatter. Said the mirror tint would be the best solution if I decide to go with it. I live in FL where our cars get baked for most of the year.

You might want to confirm this. Good luck.

I read about this online too. I asked by tint shop and they never had an issue in Northern California. It would probably ask your tint guy if he has seen a cracked sun roof.

On a related not, ask about ceramic tint. On some threads I read that metallic tint interferes with GPS. Some folks have used metallic tint with no problems either though. Just wanted to throw this out there.

Yes, GPS signal is an issue and I had experience about this.
The metal tint definitely block most of the GPS signal, but the ceramic tint works well with my GPS receiver.
Taiwan is a tropical country, almost everybody tint, even the windshield. I do the same to all my cars, including the windshields. The ceramic tint is much more expensive but is GPS friendly. So I use ceramic tint on windshield and sun roof, metal tint for side and back.

ps. In Taiwan, there is no law or regulation talks about how to tint private cars. I know in some countries, to tint the front side windows and/or windshield is not allowed.

It's interetsing about the metal tint & possible interference.. I have tint on all sides and rear ... I have experienced some poor FM reception which I am wondering may be caused by the tint.(FM aerial is in rera window I think) . I will have to check the tint composition as the dealer installed this for me...

Isn't the radio aerial on the rear top roof, the one looks like shark fin?
If it is, then the tint does not cause any problem. But if it is not, then what is it?
