08 existential questions !
Q- Why BMW websites ( US and CDN ) aren't updated with 2008 X5
models? A- Stuck w too many 07 and they want to get rid of them before making 08 "shopping" more easy ???? Q- Why so many 07 left over ( if so )? A- Too pricey? Too many software glitches? Darn hard and slippery run flat tires? "Wonderfull" iDrive gizmo? Q- Why is the diesel availability ( US and CDN ) again delayed ( said to be a nov 2008 production as an 09 )? A- Non conformity to CA and CDN anti pollution regulations or is it so much cheaper ( and very torquey ) as opposed to gas model that it could hurt gas engine models sales in America and they are pushing it's introduction to the market place??? Q- Now with the CDN $ worth 0.03$ more than the US $ why are X5 ( w the same options ) prices 35% more expensive in CDN than in the US ??? A- Not to hurt the resale value of those X5 already on the road ( Official answer ) or gread ? Q- Why then that, in CDN, Mercedes didn't lower the base price of the 08 fleet but includes more "free" options in them wich amount to a drecrease in price. Can't BMW do the same ??? A- BMW laziness or gread? Q- Why US BMW dealers are ordered not to sell new 08 X5 to CDN residents but are allowed to sell used ones, mainly 07 demos??? A- ???? Q- Would you folks in the US pay close to $100,000US for a loaded 08 4.8 topping it with 15% taxes ( GST and PST ) and a luxury tax? A- Even as good as this SAV is am I getting cheap or what ??? Wassup BMW? I've been a proud owner of BMW since 1987 but with your ridiculous pricing list in CDN you are pushing customers like me away. ( Driving a 05 X5 4.4, previously 02 X5 4.0, 00 X5 4.0, 540, 535 x 2, 325 iX ). Guess I should move to the US ... Cheap cars, cheap taxes, nicer roads than in "northen Cuba", but Hilary ( or Nobel Al ? ) is just around the corner ... Should I reconsider ??? |

Lots of questions. Can't help you on the pricing questions, but it isn't a BMW conspiracy, many things just cost more here. Yes, I know they were rhetorical questions, but two caught my eye.

So, where are they pushing you to? Domestics, other imports, or used?

You gotta love how we get ripped off in Canada on car prices. I priced out a X5 in Toronto, and Miami where I also spend much of the year, and it was 20Gs cheaper in the US, even with our strong CAD.
