DVD

I just picked up, finally, my 2008 Space Gray / Black 4.8 X5. From the 40 miles I have on it, I love it.

Question - in the entertainment menu, DVD is one option - will the car display DVD movies in the main screen when the car is in park? Also, the CD changer in the glove box also has a DVD logo on it - any chance of reading DVD movies for any display on the main screen in park?

Thanks a lot.

Josh

try it. they don't include a cd changer anymore... it's a DVD changer only. go put in a movie and let the rest of us know if you can get that to work. thanks.

Marc - in my lazy manner, I chose to post the question without trying it. Okay, so I went into the garage and tried it. The dvd in the front dash in only for the navigation. However, the "dvd" changed in the glove box does take video dvd movies and plays them on the screen while the car is in park. As soon as you put the car in drive, you get the warning screen that it only works when the car is parked. Excellent video / sound quality too. Looks like there are some menus to configue, so maybe even more options await.

We'll need to find a fix where the car can be in motion while a movie is playing (for the wife ofcourse...)

Now that is a fantastic new feature for 08! On my old 530 (2001 model) I added an oem tv tuner from BMW and had someone bypass the warning system when the car is in motion. I was able to watch over the air tv on my navigation screen and I connected a blaupunkt dvd player in the trunk for movies. It was great as I was driving long distances.

Now for all of those who will scream bloody murder over the safety issues involved. I will tell you that I never looked at my screen when I drove, it is in your peripheral vision and you mainly listen to the sound.

I agree, totally. Listening to movies is a great way of passing time on long trips. I wonder if we can find a way around this warning system.

This is a great feature. I'm glad I tried it. Theoretically, if you wanted to put a screen in the back, someone could probably pull the video out from this dvd changed and play the video on the rear screen(s).

Definitely need to find away around this "only in park" issue.

I haven't spent the time to figure it out yet (if it's even possible). I'd much rather find a way of allowing the video to play while the car is in drive.

Hopefully there is a way of making it full screen, but if not, it's still a great feature and surprise to have!

If you figure it out, please let us know.

seems like full screen should be possible. who needs a map when you're in park anyhow? does it play in 5.1 surround sound?
